(cedrus - Juniperus virginiana/Red Cedar) from the mountains of the
Cedar has been used for centuries by Indigenous and other healers in the
world of holistic health.
Cedar is known as a medicinal plant and is one of 4 sacred and traditional medicines in Indigenous culture. It has been used to treat fevers, chest colds, and flu-like symptoms. It also contains a large amount of vitamin C. Use to support a healthy immune system, improve anti-inflammatory efforts and assist with respiratory issues.
You can enjoy cedar tea by steeping a tablespoon of fresh or dried chopped cedar leaf per cup of boiled water. It has a warm and soothing taste that has been described at warm winter spices. You will want to steep this tea for at least 20 minutes and you can even steep longer and then refrigerate and drink cold. Another way to enjoy is to add to a pot of simmering water and simmer for 10 minutes (or to taste).
Like everything, consuming too much of one thing is never good for your body. And in this case, it is recommended that you drink no more than 3 cups of cedar tea per week..
**Warning – do not consume cedar tea if pregnant, planning to get pregnant or are nursing
